Dutchman A piece of similar material used to replace a damaged or missing portion of a natural stone or masonry unit. The cut is made to fit exactly the shape and size of the Dutchman allowing the smallest possible void for the installation of the mortar or epoxy. A successful Dutchman should be structurally sound and blend with the repaired unit. Unit Replacement Substitution of a damaged unit with a new unit of the same composition and detail.
